Background
COVER DESIGN
Creating the Cover
The cover design features a grid of alphabets built from different typefaces, creating a visual showcase of typographic variety. The grid structure brings order and a timeless graphic sensibility, echoing the book’s emphasis on fundamentals. We incorporated the full color palette, spotlighting the letters T, Y, P, and E in red to spell out TYPE—a playful, graphic hint at the theme.
COLOR PALETTE
Creating the Color Palette
We chose a red, white, and black color palette to keep the design classic, clear, and accessible for beginners. Black and white create a strong foundation that emphasizes readability and allows typography to take center stage without distraction. The addition of red introduces contrast and visual interest, helping highlight key elements while maintaining a timeless, professional feel. Together, these colors reflect the fundamentals of graphic design and typography, making the palette both instructional and enduring for an introductory book.
TYPOGRAPHY
Choosing the Type
To maintain clarity and simplicity, we selected Avenir for the title and headings, giving the layout a crisp, contemporary feel. Garamond was chosen for the body copy, offering a warm, classic contrast while remaining highly readable.
